2021 ECSPM SYMPOSIUM
MULTILINGUALISM IN HIGHER EDUCATION
28-29 June 2021
The event is hosted by the Department of Linguistics and the Centre for Multilingualism at the University of Konstanz (Germany), 28-29 June 2021.
It will feature:
- Three (3) presentations by key-note speakers critiquing the monolingual habitus, the coloniality of knowledge and internationalisation as a form of linguistic hegemony in European universities and posing questions about the uninterrogated epistemologies in curriculum and instruction.
- Three (3) panels on multilingual policies and practices in higher education with invited participants who will present their experiences, after which they will discuss relevant issues with each other and with or set forth by CURUM members. Specifically:
1. A European panel of scholars to discuss policies and practices of multilingualism in European universities
2. An international panel of scholars on multilingualism in higher education beyond Europe (from the Global South and the Global North)
3. A panel of scholars from EU university alliances formed as part of the European Universities Initiative (e.g., Arqus European University Alliance; CIVIS-European Civic University; ERUA: European Reform University Alliance) that have made a commitment to promote multilingualism within their alliance
The ECSPM event will follow the Conference on Multilingualism 2021 (COM2021) hosted by the same institution 23-25 June 2021, aiming at exploring the many different aspects of multilingualism in the fields of linguistics, psychology, neurology, sociology and educational sciences.
